WP4: Innovative approach to H2 storage management

WP Lead

Team

Task 4.1

The key objective of this WP is to develop state-of-the-art mitigation strategies targeting the different physio-chemical conditions of the various hydrogen storage systems. We will screen and test a range of mitigation strategies based on the experiences of other industries.

  1. Characterize and compare the efficacy of common chemical biocides on H2 consumption rates of microbial communities enriched from field samples.
  2. Investigate the inhibition effect of ‘green’ mitigators on H2 storage microbial communities.
  3. Define a blueprint of an ‘optimal’ preventative strategy by correlating biocide efficacy in relations to business analysis (Task 4.2)

Task 4.2

Understand the value drivers of H2 storage facilities and assess the feasibility of mitigation strategies.

  1. Classify and categorize storage facilities by microbial kinetics and technical inputs.
  2. Assess the sites using PESTLE.
  3. Assess the environmental risk of a new underground H2 storage using ENVID.
  4.  Perform a SWOT  analysis on each category of storage sites &/or mitigation strategies.
  5. Forecast cash flow associated with each category of storage sites.
  6. Assess risks associated with each storage site category and corresponding mitigation strategies.
  7. Build an integrated economic model of storage facilities to support business decisions (with Geostock).
