Watch our official HyLife CETP Kick-off

Learn about our project, our goals and planned work on how we want to analyze, understand and map microbial activities in potential hydrogen underground storage sites in Europe.

And, of course, meet all our partners!
Do you want to support the project with samples from potential storage sites? Learn about our workflow and the possibilities to join in!

HyLife-CETP first workshop in Bergen

(March 2024)

HyLife-CETP Workshop was in full motion in Bergen, Norway, hosted by the coordinator Nicole Dopffel at NORCE Research where our partners were able to meet for the first time face-to-face to discuss the latest advancements in the field of microbiology 🦠 within underground hydrogen storage.

💡During the workshop, we delved into the recent methodology development and the upcoming round-robin tests by WP2 from Technical University of Liberec (Kateřina Černá Kristýna Fadrhonc). Our sampling manager Joachim Tremosa gave an overview on the sampling status from our sample providers. WP3-Sétareh Rad and Sylvain STEPHANT presented an exciting experimental and analytical workflow that will be participated by all laboratory partners of HyLife-CETP. WP4-Annie Biwen An Stepec led an industry focused discussion on UHS mitigation and management followed by an insightful UHS economic & risk analysis 📈📉from our cross-cutting partners Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) Khine Kyaw Nicola Paltrinieri. Finally WP5- Petra Bombach Jakub Říha presented the upcoming plans for data management and guideline development. Throughout the workshop, it was inspiring to see such collaboration and enthusiasm among attendees (especially during the microbe sculpting activity 😉), all dedicated to shaping a more sustainable future.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event. Your insights and expertise are invaluable as we continue to push the boundaries of hydrogen storage innovation!

Stay tuned 🔍👀for more updates and future events 📅 as we work together to unlock the full potential of hydrogen as a clean energy solution!

Hylife Workshop in Orléans

(March 2025)

The 2025 workshop for our CETP-HyLife project was organized and hosted by BRGM, in the beautiful city of Orléans (France). It was truly a WONDERFUL experience to engage with all participants and witness how quickly the project is advancing!

The workshop began with a public talk by Nicole Dopffel, the project coordinator, on microbiology in underground systems and the associated risks of underground hydrogen storage. Each work package then presented its progress:
🔬 Kateřina Černá presented the latest results of our round-robin tests (WP2), and the publication process is now underway!
🌍 Our sampling manager, Joachim Tremosa, provided an update on the sampling progress, with 38 groundwater samples now collected from our sample providers.
🧬 Sétareh Rad, Arnault Belcour, Laura Fablet, Delphine Roppers, and Sylvain STEPHANT shared the first results from WP3, offering an initial overview of microbial diversity, activity, and function. Engaging discussions followed on the upcoming experiments and modelling efforts, transitioning from laboratory to reservoir-scale studies.
🧪 Annie Biwen An Stepec presented the latest experimental results with biocides to identify potential mitigation solutions. This was followed by insightful economic and risk analysis on UHS by Khine Kyaw and Nicola Paltrinieri.
📊 Finally, Petra Bombach from WP5 outlined the plans for data management and guideline development, while Jakub Říha explained how our open database will be designed to support this vital work.

The event was further enriched by presentations from our young scientists and several insightful talks from our industrial partners on the hydrogen market and microbiology.

A big thank you to everyone for attending in such large numbers, and special thanks to Sylvain STEPHANTSétareh Rad, Laura Fablet, Caroline Michel, Rebecca Pishu, and Frédéric Mathurin who organized this workshop.

New chapters for the HyLife-CETP-HyLife project are coming! Do not hesitate to follow us to learn more about this amazing project.
